Chinese culture has been in existence for many millenia. You can deal with the Chinese people if you study parts of this culture.

Cultivating personal relationships will assist you in your business dealings, even if you are only shopping. You can sweeten the sugar and possibly seal negotiations the way you want it if you banter while you haggle. This is a very good reason to learn Chinese.

If handing out a business card, your name has to be facing the recipient and both arms need to be outstretched. Also, learning Chinese are extremely particular on seniority and designation. Addressing a Chinese national with his correct designation and not just the common Mister or Miss will earn you brownie points.

You should give more respect to important people with seniority and rank. Offer presents, and never refuse one that is given to you. Above all, “face” is very important, so don’t embarrass a Chinese person in the presence of others.

Other very essential things to bear in mind include not airing out pro-Tibet and pro-Taiwan opinions, not complimenting the Japanese in any form, not criticizing revered Chinese leaders such as Mao Tse Tung, and not plastering a permafrown on your face.
